Hi: My mom used to make this salad dressing all the time!! We all loved it!! She used keens dry mustard instead of french mustard and it was really good.
Does any one have the original recipe, which I used to make 40 to 50 years ago? I know it included the powdered mustard, a dash of salt and pepper, maybe cayenne pepper, melted butter and an egg (before we worried about raw eggs in egg nogs and recipes such as this). I’d love to have the original, but have not been able to find it.
Gloria McKay, here is a recipe I found, which may be what you are looking for:
MAGIC MAYONNAISE
1 can Eagle Brand milk
1/2 cup vinegar
1 beaten egg
1/2 cup salad oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dry mustard
Dash of red pepper
Poppy seeds (optional)
Put ingredients into a bowl and beat well. Refrigerate. May be served over fruit salad.
Like using eagle brand milk
So glad I found this page .. my mother made this salad dressing and my dad loved it on mashed potatoes
My mother and I used the older recipe with the egg and left out the oil and and red pepper.
My mothers old recipe:
1 can Eaglebrand milk
2 eggs
1/2 melted butter
1 teas. dry mustard
Beat all above ingredients and add
1 cup of cider vinegar.
Dressing may be thinned with cream.
My mother made one from the Eagle Brand and I had it a few years ago but lost it. Mom always said it was on the can as a recipe. She put the ingredients in a large bottle and just shook it up. It was really good on salads.
I’m looking for a recipe using Eagle Brand milk, Mayo and vinegar on a pasta salad. Can anyone help?
The original recipe that my mother used 70 years ago was this one:
One can of Eagle Brand Condensed milk.
One cup of white vinegar.
One teaspoon dry mustard.
The vinegar was to be folded into the condensed milk slowly to keep it a little on the
thick side or else it would be too runny.
Put in the refrigerator.
